A Pilot E-Redox™ (O) System at a Municipal Wastewater Treatment Plant in Eastern China
AET designed and supervised the construction of a pilot-scale E-Redox™ (O) system that was implemented at a municipal wastewater treatment plant in Eastern China. The E-Redox™ (O) system had a capacity of 5.0 m3 and operated at a hydraulic retention time (HRT) of 18 hours, the same HRT to the aerobic membrane bioreactor system (1400 m3) that was the primary treatment system at the wastewater treatment plant. Within 30 d from startup, the E-Redox™ (O) system removed 84% of the COD, while the aerobic system at the WWTP removed 96% of the COD. After 50 d from startup, the E-Redox™ (O) performance was within 4% of that of the aerobic system. No energy input was applied to the E-Redox™ (O) system during the pilot test, in contrast, the system produced up to 106 mV of electrical potential across a resistor.
